Emotional Support
Emotional support involves providing a safe, compassionate space for individuals and their loved ones to express fears, grief, and emotions surrounding death and dying. This includes active listening, offering a nonjudgmental presence, and creating an environment where clients feel heard and validated. Emotional support can also involve addressing unresolved conflicts or anxieties and guiding clients toward finding peace and acceptance.
Legacy Work
Assisting clients in creating meaningful keepsakes, letters, videos, or other projects to leave behind for loved ones. This could include journaling life stories, crafting photo albums, recording audio or video messages, or writing ethical wills to convey values and life lessons. Legacy work is tailored to honor the individual’s personality and relationships, ensuring a lasting and heartfelt connection with their loved ones.
End-of-Life Planning
Helping individuals and families create comprehensive plans for the final phase of life. This includes discussing and documenting advance directives, healthcare proxies, and Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) orders. The planning process also involves funeral or memorial preferences, burial or cremation choices, and personal wishes for the environment or atmosphere at the time of passing. By ensuring these details are clarified, clients can feel empowered and reduce the burden on their loved ones.
Pet Rehoming Support
Losing a loved one is an emotional and overwhelming experience, and ensuring their beloved pet finds a safe and loving home can add to the weight of that grief. This service provides compassionate assistance in finding the right home for pets left behind. I understand that each pet has unique needs and that honoring your loved one's wishes is important. With care and respect, I work to match pets with responsible, loving families who can provide the stability and affection they deserve.
Spiritual Support
Facilitating rituals, meditations, or practices that align with the client’s spiritual beliefs and provide comfort during the dying process. This may include prayer, blessings, energy work, guided meditations, or the use of sacred objects and symbols. Spiritual support respects all belief systems and is personalized to bring solace, connection, and meaning to the journey.
Holding Space
Being fully present with the dying person and their loved ones, offering calm, nonjudgmental support and companionship. This involves simply being there without trying to fix or change anything, creating a space where emotions, silence, and vulnerability are honored. Holding space helps foster an atmosphere of peace and acceptance, allowing clients to feel supported on their terms.
Advocacy
Assisting clients in communicating their needs and wishes to healthcare providers, hospice teams, and family members. Advocacy ensures that the client’s voice is heard and that their end-of-life plans and preferences are respected. This can involve mediating family discussions, clarifying medical information, or advocating for compassionate care in institutional settings.
Education
Providing clear, accessible information about the dying process, available care options, and resources to help individuals and families make informed decisions. Education can include explanations of hospice care, palliative treatments, and what to expect physically and emotionally during the final stages of life. This empowers clients and their loved ones to face the journey with knowledge and confidence.
Grief Support
Supporting loved ones through anticipatory grief (grieving before death occurs) and helping them navigate the early stages of bereavement. This may involve individual or group conversations, facilitating memory-sharing, or providing tools to cope with loss. Grief support is tailored to each person’s needs, focusing on healing and honoring their connection to the deceased.
Vigil Support
Offering presence and care during the final hours of life. This includes creating a peaceful environment, whether through soothing music, lighting candles, holding hands, or simply sitting in silence. Vigil support may involve coordinating family participation, honoring cultural or religious traditions, and ensuring the space feels sacred and calm for both the dying person and their loved ones.
Post-Death Care Guidance
Helping families navigate practical and emotional tasks immediately following a death. This can include contacting a funeral home, arranging for a home vigil, assisting with paperwork, or coordinating memorial services. Post-death care guidance provides a steady presence during an overwhelming time, offering clarity and support for next steps.
Meditation and Mindfulness Practices
Introducing tools to reduce anxiety and bring peace during the end-of-life journey. These practices may include guided breathing exercises, body scans, gratitude meditations, or visualizations that promote relaxation and focus. Both the individual and their loved ones can benefit from these techniques, finding grounding and calm amidst uncertainty.
Legacy Celebrations
Planning and facilitating celebrations of life, storytelling events, or personalized rituals to honor the individual's journey. Legacy celebrations can include gathering loved ones to share memories, music, or meaningful symbols. These events are a way to celebrate the person’s life, values, and relationships, creating a positive and lasting impact for all involved.
